At Abacus Tables, we specialise in extra large oak dining tables. Our tables are made to measure, so we can go up to virtually any size. Our average table is around 3 metres, and we regularly make tables at 4 metres plus.

European & French Large Oak Dining Tables

There are two types of Oak to choose from – premium French Oak and a more affordable (but still high quality) rustic European Oak. There are many differences between the two oak types, but the headline is that our French Oak tops are made from a single tree, so the grain patterns and colour tones match up beautifully across the entire table top. This is rare and gives our French Oak tables a striking and unforgettable appearance. Conversely, our European Oak tops offer a more rustic aesthetic.

You can also opt for much wider pieces with the French Oak – a three-piece top being the most popular option. It’s as close as possible to having an actual tree in your house (although a much more refined version without the branches).

The European Oak comes with our standard finish, whereas the premium French Oak comes with our ultra-protective Induro finish (for maximum protection against spills and stains). Both finishes are aesthetically identical, keeping the Oak looking natural. If you want your table to stay looking like brand new with virtually no maintenance, we recommend the Induro finish. We also offer the option to upgrade European Oak tops to the Induro finish.

Ultimately, the European Oak we use is a very high-quality timber, but it’s not quite the same as our premium French Oak, which represents the best of the best.

Special timbers deserve special finishes. Our premium Induro finish is undoubtedly the best-performing and most natural-looking finish we’ve ever come across and is worthy of the most precious timber. We have tested this finish against everything you can imagine, including turmeric, wine, olive oil and hot coffee. We can confirm that it outperforms everything else in both stain resistance and durability.

Our French Oak tops come with this finish, and you can also upgrade to the Induro finish if you opt for a European Oak top.

Large Oak Dining Table and Chairs

We offer carefully selected dining chairs to complement the style of our large oak tables. To make sure your table is sized correctly to accommodate all diners, it’s important to consider both the design of the table legs and the size of your preferred chairs.

A table with a central leg design can fit more chairs around it, but there may be some loss of leg room for the diners sitting level with the table leg.

On the other hand, a table with two or four legs will slightly reduce the amount of usable chair space, but is great for maximising stability and leg room for all.

We suggest choosing the table design that best reflects your unique style, and then using our size guides (found on all product pages). If space is restricted, you can either choose a dining chair that’s not too wide, or consider a bench for one side of the table as benches are generally an efficient way to seat more people.
