INDONESIAN SUAR
If you’re looking for an ultra-impressive centrepiece full of natural beauty, our Indonesian Suar could be the perfect choice. Each table top is crafted from a single slab that spans the full width of the tree, allowing the stunning grain patterns to flow seamlessly across the surface, enriched by deep tones of chocolate and caramel.
These table tops are more than just functional furniture; they are captivating pieces of natural art, offering exotic elegance and raw beauty to any room, making them an ideal choice for those seeking a bold and striking statement piece.
SLAB SELECTION
If you order a table with a Suar top, we will find the best slab available in line with your expressed preferences and your requested size. You will then receive photos for your approval to ensure you are happy with the slab before anything is made.
We will use our experience to ensure that the slab we select is of a thickness that works well for your chosen base design and table size.
A LIFETIME INVESTMENT
Beyond their striking beauty, our Indonesian Suar tabletops offer practical benefits. The distinctive presence is inherent to this exotic timber, but it needs to be processed in a very particular way by the sawmill and the furniture maker to prevent splitting and warping. Our meticulous processes and relationships with a handful of reputable suppliers ensure that we can make something that is not only beautiful but will not excessively crack, twist, or warp and will stay looking as good as the day it was delivered forever.
We strongly recommend reading this article for more information about splitting and warping and essential things to look out for when buying a timber table of any kind.

OUR RIGOROUS PROCESS
SEASONING
Our Suar timber begins its journey with an extensive air-drying period, carefully monitored over several years to naturally reduce moisture content. This critical step is followed by a precise kiln-drying process, fine-tuning the wood’s moisture levels to achieve optimal stability.
Although an essential first step, it’s important to note that seasoning alone will not prevent wood movement. This is why we have specially designed processes for every timber we work with, which we have developed and iterated on for over a decade.
POST-SEASONING
We have developed a unique post-seasoning process specifically for Suar slabs. This is the critical next step in preventing wood movement issues and the only way to make a Suar slab table that will not severely split or warp. Each slab undergoes this process in various digitally controlled environments, with varying temperatures and humidity levels, over several weeks. We have taken over a decade to perfect the specifics of the process.
However, this isn’t the end of the story.
REINFORCED FOR DURABILITY
We embed iron reinforcement bars within each slab to combat potential warping, providing an additional safeguard. These bars are specifically designed for our Suar slab tables and are a result of rigorous testing and countless iterations over the years.
Furthermore, our approach to crack prevention involves strategically using high-bonding resin, meticulously applied to stabilise any pre-existing cracks, followed by a finish with colour-coded wood filler for a seamless and natural appearance.
These are also important details, implemented to mitigate the hugely challenging problem of wood movement, but for your complete peace of mind, all of our Suar tables come with our comprehensive Wood Movement Warranty.
Important Note: This process is in place to mitigate disastrous wood movement issues like severe cracking and twisting. Be aware that any furniture maker offering made-to-order timber furniture with faster lead times is shortcutting these processes. The consequences of not correctly processing this timber will likely make the furniture unusable within six to eighteen months.
WOOD MOVEMENT WARRANTY
Despite going to extreme lengths to avoid wood movement issues, it’s impossible to eliminate the risk of some natural movement as the timber acclimatises to your home. As such, you’re fully covered by our Wood Movement Warranty, a key element of our aftercare service.
If you have any wood movement issues within two years of owning the table (any movement will happen well within this period), we’ll bring the table back to our workshop for a full refurbishment. We will also leave you with a courtesy table in the meantime.
FULLY SUSTAINABLE & TRACEABLE
These exotic, highly sought-after Suar slabs originate from a tightly regulated source in Indonesia, ensuring their full sustainability and traceability. This source is FLEGT licensed, meaning the slabs comply with the UK’s strict regulations that guarantee responsible and ethical sourcing. This enables you to enjoy the rarity and allure of these exotic slabs without worrying about any negative environmental impacts.
Due to their limited supply, we source each Suar slab to order. If you decide to place an order, we’ll find the best slabs available in the size you’ve requested and send you photos of the options. This selection process means you’ll know exactly what you’re getting and ensures you’re happy with your chosen slab before we transform it into a one-of-a-kind centrepiece that will last forever.
